Heart Health United
What is Heart Health United?
Heart Health United is a lifestyle change intervention combining the American Heart Association’s Life’s Essential 8 education (30 mins/week) and recreational soccer programming (90mins/week) over 12-weeks.
Who is eligible?

Adults ages 40-64 who have NOT been engaged in regular physical activity or diet and exercise change programs in the last 3 years including playing soccer

Study Groups
Group 1: Recreational Soccer AND Online Education
You will be asked to:
complete a series of assessments twice, once at the beginning (baseline) and once at the end of the soccer practice portion
complete TWO 45-minute coached soccer sessions a week for 12 weeks AND complete ONE 30-minute online cardiovascular health education video each week for 12 weeks
Assessments include:
• blood pressure
• a finger stick (test for diabetes and cholesterol)
• height and weight
• physical fitness assessments
• questionnaires about your physical activity, diet, sleep
health, quality of life, stress and mental health
Group 2: Online Education ONLY
You will be asked to complete one 30-minute online cardiovascular health education video a week for 12 weeks (no in-person soccer component)
